The Obama Myth (Part Two)
A quick update on my earlier post on Obama as just another career politician. Check out this link to Opensecrets.org, which tracks political contributions. Guess which member of Congress has received the most money from Wall Street? Mr. “Change we can believe in” himself, Barack Obama.
Obama has hauled in more than $12 million from big financial companies, more than $2.5 million more than politician taking in the second most Wall Street dollars: Hillary Clinton. That’s a lot of pocket change. But it ain’t the change he’s promising on the campaign trail.
Right behind Clinton at number 3 is … that’s right, John McCain, at $9.24 million. All three voted yes on the bailout bill. Obama worked tirelessly to get it passed. McCain suspended his campaign to lobby for it. I guess all those contributions paid off for the bankers and traders. They put in a paltry couple million and they got back $700 billion. Buy low, sell high indeed!
I say it again: there’s change and then there’s real change. And no one running for the White House this fall is going to give us anything but more of the same, no matter how badly the partisans on the left and the right want to believe otherwise.
